Second allegation is that Effy sold gems called ‘black diamonds’, which are actually black sapphires. Third allegation was the faux heating that induced artificial colors to make the gem look naturally procured.

In 3 months, I went on the same cruise and purchased a beautiful Diamond Ring from Effy tagged st $2495, but spent $1495, which I also wear every day. Three months after that, I purchased Tanzanite earrings, tanzanite bracelets, Diamond earrings, etc. Spent about $12k on the 4 cruises in the year.

I bought an Effy ring a few years ago. It was gold with ruby and diamond. It was beautiful and I loved it. Later I read that Effy is not the best quality brand. So although I loved many of their designs, I didn't buy any because I didn't want low quality pieces. I've been eyeing this necklace for years. It is gold with sapphire and diamonds.

Even expert gemologists can’t tell the difference with the naked eye, but just for fun we’re offering you the chance to guess.

To test this, grab a drinking glass and fill it with cold water. Use a set of plyers or fireproof gloves to hold the stone. Heat the stone with a lighter for approximately 40 seconds, then drop the stone directly into the cold water. If the stone shatters, it is made of weaker components and is not a real diamond.

If a stone is identified as natural, this means that it has not been treated, enhanced or altered. Faceting is allowed for a stone to still be considered natural, but we're seeing a growing demand for more natural looking, rough stone engagement rings like the unique diamond ring shown above (SKU 3236).

Does GIA Certify Lab Created Diamonds? GIA will certify lab-created diamonds. The stone typically can’t be mounted to a ring when graded. The total cost should be $125 or less, depending on the size of the diamond. Smaller diamonds could be less than $70. GIA issues a special report for ‘Synthetic’ Diamonds that uses fewer grading categories.
