For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent non-Rhodochrosite specimens. This piece is from one of the first pockets that Rich opened when he started mining the Sweet Home with his father-in-law, Dave Bergman.

Iceland spar from Iceland (Helgustadir) occurs in pockets of basalt (hardened lava). It was quarried, but the description of the quarry indicates that a cave was created.The working face of the quarry was described as a cavity in the rock about 12 by 5 yards, and about 10 feet high.
