That is, it is easily breakable by a hammer. The toughness of diamond is about 2.0 MPa which is good compared to other gemstones, but poor compared to most engineering materials. What things can break a diamond? As an example, you can scratch steel with a diamond, but you can easily shatter a diamond with a hammer.

yes, diamond can be broken easily by the hammer. look diamond is strong when it comes to its structure and bond, but when with sure force and specific point it has been hit, it will be broken. the diamond often fell through hands and loses it tip/point just by falling at the floor. so yes, diamond can be broken by a hammer.

While diamonds are the highest rank of hardness (ranking 10 of 10 on Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness) they only rank fair-to-good when evaluating mineral toughness. So, while diamonds are essentially unable to be scratched by anything other than another diamond, diamonds can, somewhat easily, be smashed by a hammer.

Can a hammer destroy a diamond? Yes, even though a diamond is the hardest naturally occurring substance, it can be broken with a hammer. Diamond are susceptible to chipping or fracturing from impact.

How much force does it take to break a diamond? A diamond will shatter if hit with an ordinary hammer. The toughness of natural diamond has been measured as 2.0 MPa m1/2, which is good compared to other gemstones like aquamarine(blue colored), but poor compared to most engineering materials.

Even if we consider similar geometries, the type of damage would depend on the kind of action involved. A block of diamond would scratch a block of iron, and diamond vise would slowly flatten an iron block, while a fast impact would rather shatter diamond. Also, you can easily flatten or break a small piece of steel with a steel hammer.

Diamonds are one of the hardest gems, making them hard to cut, but they’re very fragile! This makes them quite easy to smash (not easy enough where you can drop it or throw it) with a hammer or dropping an anvil on it… Steel and other rocks can be used to easily crush a diamond. So Diamond is the hardest material on the world, but it's not very tough, meaning that it can't. A lot of energy before it fractures, you can even break your diamonds just by dropping them on the ground. If they hit just right on that tip, then they can easily break and thanks for watching and I'll see you next time.

How can you know diamond is real or not?

For the fog test, hold the diamond or ring between two fingers and breath on it with a puff of air. A light fog will form on the diamond because of the moisture and heat in your breath. If the fog dissipates right away, the diamond is real. If it takes several seconds for the fog to disperse, it is likely a fake diamond.

Soap and Water. The best way to clean a diamond ring, no matter what your ring's setting and/or metal type, is plain soap and water. To make the solution, get a small bowl and add very warm water and basic dishwashing soap. Soak your ring for about 20 to 40 minutes depending on how dirty it is.
To tell if your diamond is real, place the stone in front of your mouth and, like a mirror, fog it up with your breath. If the stone stays fogged for a few seconds, then it's probably a fake. A real diamond won't fog up easily since the condensation doesn't stick to the surface.

But since the reality is that 1 carat diamond prices range from $1,900 to $16,000 and 2 carat diamond prices range from $8,000 to $84,000 which is a HUGE difference so as a general rule of thumb, in today’s market, my recommendation for best value for money diamond would be G color, SI1 clarity, no fluorescence and at least very good cut, and very good polish & symmetry.
For instance, if one carat costs $2500, a 0.5-carat diamond would cost $1250. You would calculate the price of that carat by multiplying 2500 X 0.5. The per-carat price increases as weight and quality increase. However, you also need to consider the remaining 3Cs of a diamond—color, clarity, and cut.

Carat Weight. Carat measures a diamond's weight, not its size as it is often confused. Five carats is equal to one metric gram, or, one carat is equal to 200 milligrams. The heavier the diamond, the greater its value. Small stones of high color and clarity are easier to find than larger ones, so you will notice them more often in jewelry stores.
