Lab created diamonds are rapidly growing in terms of awareness and popularity. They last just as long, look just as beautiful but cost A LOT less. Why are lab diamonds so much cheaper than mined diamonds? Market manipulation controls supply and keeps the cost of earth-grown diamonds artificially high.

If $17k is cheap, lets be friends. I mean, cheap as in relatively speaking ($12k compared to similar $25k). So I came across this diamond, and am wondering why its so much less than comparable lab created diamonds.. I mean, the next diamond on this site is twice the cost and 0.03 carats less.

Lab created diamonds are priced at about 20-35% cheaper than a diamond mined from the earth with the same carat weight and same specifications. Lab diamonds and mined diamonds have the same characteristics, so this discount is a great way to save for those on a budget.

The lab-created stone costs $3,640, while the natural diamond costs $5,280. That’s a 45% difference in price. However, the lab-created diamond doesn’t retain any value. It can’t be resold to a jeweler and it won’t garner more than a few dollars on a site like eBay.

Synthetic diamond prices are generally lower than natural diamonds, and the price of lab-created diamonds continues to drop (as much as 30% in a year). This is due to lab-grown diamonds not having any resale value and that the demand for lab-grown diamonds continues to decrease.

To keep it simple - lab created diamonds cost a lot because they cost a lot ot manufacture. Keep in mind that all lab created gemstones, like sapphire and cubic zirconia, were expensive when the technology was new and are now ridiculously inexpensive, mostly due to advances in technology.

Sometimes, lab-created diamonds are referred to as synthetic diamonds. While not technically inaccurate, term “synthetic” may be the reason people believe lab-created diamonds are “fake.” If we compare them to other popular diamond simulants, it’s obvious that manufactured diamonds, in fact, the real deal.

The Price of Lab Grown Diamonds. It cannot be assumed that all lab grown/synthetic diamonds are cheaper than their natural equivalent. In fact, only a few years ago, many vendors were pricing lab grown diamonds up to 25% more expensive than naturals. Just three years on and the price of lab-grown diamonds has dropped dramatically.

For example, you can determine if this 1.10ct G VS2 diamond for $1,860 offers more beauty than this 1.38ct I VS1 diamond for $2,240. Overall, the best certification for lab-created diamonds is the IGI, because they give specific gradings for qualities like Color and Clarity.

Why are James Allen diamonds so inexpensive? James Allen diamonds are affordable because they do not house their own diamonds, they are completely internet-based, and have such a huge inventory. The money they save on overhead allows them to offer lower prices to their customers.
